It’s the middle of the night, and I can’t sleep so I’ve put the BBC News on. This is not helping me to get to sleep.
Johnson has had to return to the UK from the UN because of the Court judgement ruling that his prorogation of Parliament was unlawful.
Let’s just stop a moment and allow that to sink in.
The Supreme Court has had to be asked to rule on whether or not the actions of a British Prime Minister are lawful or not. And they have ruled that they were not. Our Prime Minister – not only is he unelected and without a majority in Parliament he has also broken the law.
And yet there he still is. How is that even possible.
What just happened?
I feel like a part of me has been sad since the day the referendum result was announced. I didn’t think things could get any worse.
How did we get to a point where our Prime Minister had to be taken to court?
I used to be proud to be English – now I just want to apologise profusely. I did not sign up for this. If Brexit should happen, I think there are some people who will be genuinely surprised that, the next day, we haven’t been transported back in time by 40+ years. But I’m beginning to understand where they’re coming from, because I wish we could be transported back in time by 3+ years, back to a time before Brexit was even a word.
I was born while MacMillan was in power. After that it was Alexander Douglas Home, and then the ones I remember – Wilson, Heath, Callaghan, Thatcher, Major, Blair, Brown, Cameron, May.
I voted for some of them, some of them I didn’t. Many of them I disagreed with on specifics even if I had voted for them. But none of them made me feel embarrassed to be English.
And just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, when he could sink no lower – humbug.
