Back to School

How different from all previous years.

I used to be a teacher – but I’m glad I’m not a teacher now.

I used to be a parent of school-age children – I’m glad I’m not any more.

The thought of being told specifically NOT to wear a mask, but being expected to work alongside 30 children? Teachers don’t just stand at the front, they really don’t.

The thought of having to send my children into an environment where they are mixing with God knows how many other kids, where social distancing and sanitizing and mask wearing are going to be challenging (to put it mildly)?

Back in May I wrote about Covid and Kids – and honestly? I don’t think anything has changed.

Is learning in school (as opposed to at home) more important than the potential risk of catching Covid-19? Is the social side of school more important than the potential risk of catching Covid-19? Is the childcare side of school, freeing parents up to return to work, more important than the potential risk of catching Covid-19? I don’t know.

But I don’t believe anyone else knows either.

That’s what scares me.

Scares me too. I’m a teaching assistant and I’ve been shielding so not been back yet. I’m sure it will all be fine but there’s just that little niggle in the back of my mind. Life must move forward however so onward and upward.

    1. You’re absolutely right, of course – onward and upward. But I fear that niggle isn’t going away any time soon. Take care. xx
