So that’s that over with for another year.
I don’t really like New Year. Lots of reasons.
But this year, on top of everything else, we’ve left the European Union. I’ve said all I need to say on that topic here, here and here.
I didn’t feel like celebrating anything – I switched the TV off, sat and watched the clock get to midnight, then went to bed.
At work for 9:30 on New Year’s Day – no rest for the wicked. And so off we go for another year. Will 2021 be better than 2020? I’ve stopped saying ‘Well, it could hardly be any worse’, because there’s every possibility that it could be, what with one thing and another. There’s only one way to find out.
But hope springs eternal, and all we can do is control our own little portion of the universe.
I made four New Year’s Resolutions last year. Covid put a stop to three of them – but at least I’m not eating as much red meat as I used to!!
Have you made resolutions? Do you have plans? Is Veganuary happening this year? The gyms will be full for a while. Diets will be started. All the usual things – and after this extraordinary year I find that very comforting.
Some friends of mine are doing Dry January – I’m not, but I totally support their efforts.
And that’s really all we can do, isn’t it – do what we can to improve the bits we have control over. And try not to fret too much about the bits we can’t control.
Right, woman – enough with the negativity. It’s a New Year, anything could happen, and some of it might actually be good.

Happy new year! I’ve never been one to make a massive fuss of the new year or make resolutions either. But I did have a lovely evening in with my family so that’s always a positive. Wishing you, and everybody reading, well in 2021 xxx

I know what you mean, but I must say I feel very optimistic about the new year. There are several COVID vaccines being rolled out. The UK finally reached a deal with the EU. The shortest day (in the northern hemisphere) has passed. Psychologically, 2020 is behind us and I feel excited to look ahead at what lies in store for 2021.

Some people stayed up to welcome the new year – and some stayed up to make sure the old year really went…

Yes, on the positive side, the days are getting longer here in the Northern hemisphere which means that Spring is on its way. My resolution is to try and get out for a walk every day and so far I am 2 for 2. I also flirted with going on a diet. I flirt with that every New Year, yet remain resoundingly “comfortable, big boned, and cuddly”. Pick your euphemism LOL! Happy New Year all.

Well done – 2/2 is 100%. Fab. And we love you just the way you are. xx

I prefer “cuddly” and no resolutions as they are too easily broken! Happy New Year, everyone.

That’s why we make them, I suspect – just to break them. That’s what it seems like anyway!!
